MAIR Optional Interviews

    Overview

We invite MAIR applicants to participate in optional virtual interviews for all campuses: Washington DC, SAIS Europe (Bologna), and Hopkins-Nanjing Center. These interviews provide an excellent opportunity for the admissions committee to learn more about your unique background and understand how SAIS aligns with your academic interests and career aspirations.

    Interview Format and Structure

Current Johns Hopkins SAIS graduate students serve as interviewers, offering both evaluative assessment and firsthand program insights.

Duration: Approximately 30 minutes, structured as follows:

    • First portion: Discussion of your academic and professional background, plus your specific interest in Johns Hopkins SAIS
    • Second portion: Your opportunity to ask questions about the program, student life, and campus experience

    Preparation Notes:

    • Your interviewer will have reviewed your resume beforehand
    • Come prepared to articulate your motivations for pursuing the MAIR program
    • This is your chance to demonstrate intellectual curiosity, showcase your interests, and illustrate how you'll contribute to the SAIS community

    Scheduling Your Interview

    • Format: All interviews are conducted virtually via Zoom (link provided in confirmation email)
    • Timing: You may schedule and complete your interview before submitting your full application
    • Time Zone: All available times are listed in Eastern Time
    • Preparation: Allocate adequate time to prepare so you can effectively showcase your knowledge, skills, and enthusiasm for our programs
    • Professional Attire: Please dress appropriately for a formal interview setting

Making the Most of Your Interview

This conversation serves dual purposes: it allows us to better understand you as a candidate while giving you valuable insights into the SAIS experience from a current student's perspective. Come prepared with thoughtful questions about academics, campus life, career services, and any other aspects of the program that interest you.
