DIA Virtual Information Session

Thursday, December 9, 2021 at 12:30 PM until 1:30 PMEastern Standard Time UTC -05:00

The Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) Office of Admissions invites you to learn more about our practitioner's degree, the Doctor of International Affairs (DIA). The DIA is ideal for experienced professionals with at least five years of full-time work experience, who seek to further their expertise through an advanced research degree in an accelerated timeframe and become practitioners in international affairs as distinguished from a PhD which is a more appropriate credential for those seeking a career in academia.

DIA students work with a faculty advisor to design a personalized academic and research plan to prepare for their doctoral thesis. An  advanced standing 48-credit track is available for students who possess a relevant master’s degree allowing the program to be completed in as little as two years – with one year of full-time study and subsequent year focused on completing their doctoral thesis, or part-time over the course of three years for those who intend to continue full-time employment while pursuing the degree.  An 80-credit track is available for those who have not completed a prior, relevant master’s degree. The first two years would be completed full-time and the thesis year would be part-time.  We will begin accepting applications for the fall 2022 term in mid-August.

The DIA may be completed at either the Washington DC campus or the SAIS Europe campus in Bologna, Italy.  It is an on-campus program and is not offered virtually.

Registration is no longer available because the registration deadline has passed.
